As a New Englander, I never thought I’d casually vacation in Hawaii. I mean, it’s so damn far—why would I subject myself to a 12-hour plane ride for beaches when the Bahamas are just a couple of hours away?! Well, turns out I’m a fool because Hawaii is well worth crossing the country. Among the million reasons to visit (gorgeous weather, breathtaking beaches, succulent fruits, outdoor excursions galore, etc.), I booked my ticket to Kauai for one very special occasion—the first annual poké festival at the Koloa Landing Resort. That’s right, I flew 12 hours to and from Hawaii for one weekend to celebrate raw fish.
